Anguilla is the virtually all to the north of the Leeward Islands in the Lesser Antilles, and is an internally self-independent British overseas territory. A United Nations Committee on Decolonization includes Anguilla on the United Nations list of Non-Self-Governing Territories. Military defence is the responsibility of the United Kingdom.
History
1st colonized by English settlers inside 1650, Anguilla was incorporated into a single British dependency along by using a neighboring islands of Saint Kitts and Nevis in the early 19th century, much to the objections of several Anguillans. Around 1980, however, Anguillthe formally withdrew from either a territory, becoming a separate British dependency, which it remains.
